Alaska Hound Group Association's (AHGA) mission is
-
To further the advancement of all hound purebred dogs
-
To do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of purebred hounds at dog shows and performance events
-
To conduct sanctioned matches, dog shows, and all AKC events for which the club is eligible under the Rules and Regulations of The American Kennel Club
Events
These events provide a great method for educating the public on basic training, socialization, behaviors and building relationships. We also consider our events to be a great social outlet to visit and share with friends and new people.
Lure Coursing
We host several trials each year.
Conformation
We generally host a limited breed group show each summer including junior handlers.
Coursing Ability Tests (CATs)
CATs is open to all AKC recognized breeds, as well as mixed breed with an ILP or PAL number.
This is a timed instinct test that is either 600 yards long (all dog over 12" tall) or 300 yards long (for dogs under 12" tall, bracheycephalic dogs, and dogs over the age of 7 yrs) .
Fun Runs
Fun runs are open for any and all breeds of dogs (mixed, too). This is a fun way to introduce your dog and puppies to chasing the lure, and to get in shape for the summer.
Timing does depend on the weather...whether we have snow on the ground, temps, hard rain... and the condition of the field. Follow us on Facebook for current information.

FAST CATs (Coursing Ability Tests)
FAST CATs is a timed 100-yard dash where dogs run one at a time, chasing a lure. It is open to all AKC recognized breeds, as well as mixed breed with an ILP or PAL number.
The purpose of the AKC Fast CAT event is to provide all dogs and their owners an enjoyable, healthy activity in which they can participate.
The dogs run singularly, and the time to complete the 100 yard dash is converted into MPH. Dogs earn points based on their handicapped speed (applied to a formula). Titles are awarded when a dog has accumulated a given number of points.
The handicap system is based on the height of the dog at its withers:
** 18" or greater = handicap is 1.0.
** 12" up to less than 18" = handicap is 1.5.
** Below 12" = handicap is 2.0.
Points = mph multiplied by the dog’s handicap
Microchips
We offer microchipping at our trials, tests and shows.
The chips are already registered through AKC's Reunite Program. The owner just needs to go to AKC's website to fill in the information.
Cost is $30 per chip.
